DIRECTIONS
STEP 1 - PREPARING THE FIXTURE (Bathtubs, sinks, tile, fiberglass
showers, countertops, cultured marble)
A. Use products at room temperatures above 60 degrees only. The preparation
of the fixture is the most important step in the refinishing process. Follow
directions completely.
B. Surface must be clean, dry and free from rust. Remove any silicone
or other types of caulking from the fixture completely with a razor blade
and sand off any film remaining on the fixture. Remove soap scum, grease,
wax, etc by wiping the fixture with Acetone purchased from your local
hardware store. All fixtures, tile, and especially
fiberglass fixtures must be sanded with 80 grit sandpaper to remove paint
droppings, excess caulking or other material that is on the surface prior to
continuing. Fiberglass fixtures must be thoroughly sanded to roughen the
surface prior to applying the primer. (Exceptions are Formica countertops, cultured marble and
plastics. These surfaces require a light sanding with 320 grit sandpaper)
C. Remove any rust with a wire brush.
D. Porcelain and
Tile fixtures require minor etching after the cleaning process. Make sure all
metal parts including the drains on bathtubs are covered with masking tape
prior to applying the etching cleaner. Wear safety goggles, latex gloves. Avoid splashing solution
on skin. Apply Etching Gel Cleaner 100% strength using a disposable paint
brush. Do
not allow solution to run onto any floors or unmasked metal. Scrub the
fixture or tiles with a scrub pad for 10 minutes. You may work in sections if needed. Once completed,
rinse Etching Gel Cleaner from the fixture or tiles well with warm water.
Then wash the fixture thoroughly with soap and water. Rinse and allow to dry completely.
You can use paper towels to remove water from the fixture.
E. Chip or Crack Repairs In Sinks,
Bathtubs, Tile, Cultured Marble and Fiberglass. If chips, cracks or dings are present. These must be
repaired prior to refinishing. Repair kits, with easy to follow directions
are available from our Super Store. After repairs are made, remove any left over debris and wipe
the repaired area lightly with a small amount of Acetone on a paper towel.
STEP 2 – Applying Masking Tape and Primer
Make sure fixture is
completely dry and free of debris.
Wipe entire fixture with Acetone prior to masking and allow Acetone to
evaporate prior to continuing Mask plumbing fixtures and surrounding areas
with masking tape and paper if needed. Be sure to mask the drain areas of
bathtubs and sinks. Cut excess tape from drains using a razor knife.
Primer - Mix primer
and primer thinner to the proper viscosity per your hvlp paint sprayer specs
normally 10%.
Spray the fixture using one light coat of primer, allowing the primer to dry
1 hour before applying Brrn Multi Surface Top Coat depending on
temperature and humidity.
Drying time may be affected by temperature and humidity in your area. One coat
is all that is normally required. On Sinks, start at the drain, and work your way
out of the sink to the edges. For bathtubs, start at drain area, then cover
the bottom of the bathtub, next the sides of the tub, and finally the top
lip and the front of the bathtub last.
STEP 3 – Applying BRRN 100 Top Coat
A. Mix Brrn Multi Surface Coating with the Brrn 101 thinner first. Mix according to
your hvlp manufacturers specs or with 10% of Brrn 101 Thinner minimum.
B. After mixing paint and thinner thoroughly, add the Brrn hardener
dryer at a
rate of 2-3 ounces per quart of paint or 8 ounces per gallon. Mix the
paint thoroughly. Pot life of the paint with additives is 1 hour. Start by
spraying one light coat waiting 15 minutes for the coating to flash prior to
applying your final wet shinny coat. Normally one final coat is all that is required.
C. Avoid runs, If you do get any runs, wipe the paint off with a paper towel
lightly saturated with acetone.
D. When finished, remove masking tape and paper. Do not
allow fixture to dry with masking tape or paper left on it. Be careful not
to get debris on wet coating. Allow to Dry 24-36 hours depending on
temperature and humidity – DO NOT USE THE FIXTURE
OR ALLOW THE PAINTED AREA TO GET WET FOR 24-36 HOURS. Obviously colder
temperatures and high humidity will affect drying times.
Clean Up with paint
thinner or dispose of brushes, rollers and other materials properly. Do not
allow children in the work area.
CARE AND CLEANING
Never clean fixtures with abrasive cleanser, or scrub pads. Do not use bleach
or drain cleaners. Do not use suction type bath mats in bathtubs, all of these will damage the finish. Shelf life of product is 1 year. Keep out of reach of
children.
